Megan Rapinoe, a star U.S. midfielder and a member of previous World Cup-winning squads, entered the game in the 8th minute of extra time.

The first half of the match was dominated by the USA, with possession and two shots on goal, while Sweden had zero shots on target.

In the second half, Sweden applied more pressure, and possession became more even, but they struggled to finish chances.

The U.S. squad had more opportunities on goal throughout the match, with two more shots on target than Sweden.

Sweden's first shot on goal came in the 85th minute of regulation play.Swedish goalkeeper Zecira Musovic made crucial saves, including stopping a strong charge by Alex Morgan.

The USA was the favorite, having won the last two World Cups and being top of the pile in 1999 and 1991, but their group stage performance was lackluster with only five points.

Sweden, ranked third in the tournament, topped their group with nine points, finishing undefeated.
